Electric Trikes for Seniors: Safety, Stability and Freedom

Here's a sentence we hear in the shop every single week:

"I'd love to keep riding, but my balance isn't what it was."

And here's our answer, every single time:

Then stop balancing. Start riding a trike.

Three wheels. Electric assist. Zero balancing act. The riding part of your life doesn't have to end β€” it just changes shape.

Why Trikes Work

πŸ›‘οΈ Stable at any speed β€” including a dead stop. No unclipping, no wobbles at traffic lights, no foot-down moments.

πŸͺ΄ Step-through frames β€” no swinging a leg over. Hip replacements, knee surgeries, arthritis: the frame works with you, not against you.

πŸ›’ Built-in baskets β€” a proper grocery run without a backpack.

⚑ Electric assist β€” hills flatten out, headwinds disappear, and the ride home is as pleasant as the ride out.

The 5 Things That Actually Matter

1. Step-through height

The lower the better. This is the difference between using the trike daily and it living in the garage.

2. Seat position and comfort

Upright riding position, wide comfortable saddle, back support on some models. You should be able to put both feet flat on the ground while seated.

3. Simple controls

Big clear display. Easy assist buttons. Twist-and-go options where appropriate. Complexity is the enemy of confidence.

4. Brakes you can trust

Good levers with easy reach, and parking brakes so the trike stays put while you load the shopping.

5. Local servicing

A trike that can't be serviced locally is a problem waiting for a tow. Every trike we sell gets serviced right here in the Alphington workshop β€” and yes, we do pickups.

"Am I Too Old to Start?"

We've set up riders in their 80s.

The trick is starting somewhere quiet β€” a rail trail, a park loop β€” and letting confidence build over a couple of weeks. Trikes handle a little differently to bikes (you steer rather than lean), and most riders have it sorted in one or two outings.

Independence, exercise, fresh air, and the ability to carry a week's shopping. That's not a gadget. That's quality of life.

Come and Try One

You cannot judge a trike from a photo. You judge it by sitting on it.
