Vamos Papa Grande Pro Review: The Big, Comfortable Electric Trike with a Boot

Vamos calls it the Big Daddy, and that's fair. The Papa Grande Pro is the biggest, strongest trike we sell: 200kg capacity, a 50kg rear boot, a 500W continuous-rated motor, hydraulic disc brakes, suspension, integrated lights and a battery that'll do 100km-plus in the bigger size. If you want a trike that replaces the car for everything local, this is the one.

What it's like to ride

You step through the low frame and sit down. Three wheels, so nothing to balance at any point, including when you've stopped on a slope to chat to a neighbour. An integrated handbrake locks the trike in place so you can park on uneven ground and walk away without it rolling.

Suspension soaks up the bumps, and the ergonomic seat and handlebars put you in a relaxed, upright posture rather than hunched over. The 500W continuous-rated motor is delivered locked to 250W and 25km/h to comply with EN15194, so it's legal to ride like a pushbike in Victoria with no rego or licence. What the bigger motor means in practice is that the trike pulls away cleanly even fully loaded, and holds its speed up hills without the rider straining. A throttle gets you rolling from a standstill at up to 6km/h.

Hydraulic disc brakes mean light lever effort and strong, predictable stopping. The lights are built in and run off the main battery.

The boot

The rear boot takes up to 50kg. That's a full week's shopping, or the dog, or the grandkids' gear, in a proper enclosed space rather than a wire basket. Combined with the 200kg total rating for rider plus cargo, the Papa Grande Pro is one of the few trikes where "I'll do the big shop on it" is a realistic plan rather than wishful thinking.

Battery and range

It runs a Samsung 52V battery in your choice of 20Ah (70km-plus range) or 25Ah (100km-plus). For most riders that means charging once or twice a week, not every night.

Who it suits

• Larger riders, or anyone who wants to carry serious weight (200kg total, 50kg in the boot)
• Riders who want a trike as a genuine car replacement for local trips
• Hilly areas, where the stronger motor earns its keep
• Riders with balance or mobility concerns who want maximum comfort and stability

For OTs, physios, support coordinators and support workers

The Papa Grande Pro suits participants whose goals centre on independent shopping and errands, where the rider's weight or load rules out lighter-rated trikes, and where comfort over longer distances matters. The integrated handbrake and enclosed boot are worth noting in an assessment. We can bring one to the participant's home for an at-home test ride, do a joint visit with you, and provide a written quote and supporting information for the plan.
