Vamos Trio Review: The 200kg-Rated Electric Trike for Larger Riders and Hills
Share
The Vamos Trio is a trike with a 200kg weight capacity, a 500W continuous-rated motor and a low step-through frame. In plain terms: it's a strong, stable three-wheeler that doesn't care how much you weigh or how much shopping you've put in it, and it'll still get you up the hill.
What it's like to ride
You step through the frame and sit down; there's nothing to swing a leg over. Three wheels means nothing to balance at any speed, including stopped at a crossing or parked on a slope while you unload.
The motor is rated at 500W continuous, which is more than most trikes. Out of the box it's limited to 250W and 25km/h to comply with EN15194, so it's legal to ride like a pushbike in Victoria with no rego or licence. What the bigger motor means day to day is that the trike doesn't bog down when it's loaded or when the rider is heavier: it pulls away cleanly and holds its speed up hills. There's a throttle to get you rolling from a standstill at up to 6km/h, so you're never relying on leg strength to start off on a slope.
The 200kg thing
Most trikes are rated to 120-150kg for rider plus cargo. The Trio is rated to 200kg. For larger riders, that's the difference between a trike that's rated for them and one that technically isn't. For everyone else, it means the frame, wheels and brakes are built with headroom, which tends to translate into a trike that feels solid rather than flexy.
Who it suits
- Larger riders, or anyone who regularly carries heavy loads
- Riders with balance issues who want an upright, stable, no-balancing ride
- Hilly suburbs, where a stronger motor earns its keep
- Riders who want a trike that's legal to ride anywhere a bike can go, without paperwork
If you want a big rear boot and suspension on top of the 200kg capacity, the Vamos Papa Grande Pro is the step up. If you need a trike that folds for a car or a small shed, see the Ridewave Wallaby.
For OTs, physios, support coordinators and support workers
The Trio is the model to look at when a participant's weight, or the combined rider-plus-cargo load, rules out lighter-rated trikes, or when the participant lives somewhere hilly and needs the motor to do the heavy lifting. We can bring one to the participant's home for an at-home test ride, do a joint visit with you, and provide a written quote and supporting information for the plan. Seat, bars and grips can be adjusted to suit the rider.
We're not an NDIS-registered provider, so we work best with self-managed and plan-managed participants. Agency-managed? Get in touch anyway.
